Todays Reading - Ancestors

Today’s card is from Earth Magic oracle cards by Dr. Steven Farmer. The illustration is by Jeremy Donovan.

Ancestors – Generations.

I really love the Aboriginal theme to this card. It was one that I pulled for myself yesterday as something that is hidden from me, so focusing on it for the blog today should help me understand!

I spent some time a few years ago focusing on Ancestor work in connection with my Druidry and courses I was taking and mentoring at the New Order of Druids. I did a couple of powerful meditations at Samhain that have left a lasting impression. The first was based on a meditation in a book by Frank MacEowen. It involved imagining myself standing at the head of a pyramid. Behind me were my parents, then grandparents and so on and so forth. I focused on adding to this pyramid. It very soon became huge and I became aware of how it must interact with many other pyramids, and how connected we all are. But the most powerful feeling was one of connection to myself. My blood connected me to all these people, they were all a part of me. Their looks, skills, faults and gifts were all within me. I had within me all that knowledge and wisdom gained through countless lives. I had all those people to ask for help! When you realise this you can see how you are never alone. Even if you were adopted and never knew your parents, they are a part of you, and so are all those other ancestors going back thousands of years. Think on this for a while, and try and visualise your own pyramid. It is very empowering, and also a very nurturing thought as you connect with all those relatives. Spend today imagining all those generations looking over your shoulder , where ever you go and whatever you do. See what help is offered and be aware of the feelings you get.

The second meditation I did involved walking through a tunnel of Yew trees and meeting an ancestor at the other side. I can still picture the huge man I met. He was dark haired with a beard, and the blue eyes my family on my mother’s side are known for. He looked like a relative! He gave me a hand carved wooden whistle and said I should learn to play it, although I got the feeling he meant figuratively. I still haven’t figured out completely what the gift signified, but I have the whistle in a soul pocket next to my heart!

Our ancestors are not dead, they are just passed over. This doesn’t mean they can’t help us. Try calling on them for help with something, and then sit back and see what thoughts and ideas form in your head. You may experience a vision or dream or a tingling or other sensation in your body. Their energy is always available to you, as well as their wisdom.

There are other ancestors that can help us too. Those in the land around where we live. Where ever you are there have been people there before you. Some of these spirits have stayed on and can be asked to help, especially with problems relating to the area or community. Many cultures, including the Aborigines believe that ancestor spirits live on in our environment. They may be within rocks, trees, hills, animals, insects, anything that exists naturally. There are times when messages can be received from these spirits that will help and guide you. Next time you get out into nature, sit quietly for a while and imagine that everything around you has spirit, has soul. Everything is alive. Feel the vibrancy of life around you and then feel how it connects to you and you to it. Open yourself to this connection and ask a question. You may receive an answer in your own head or you may find your attention drawn to a tree, an animal or insect, a shade of colour. Whatever it is take some time to focus on it and then research it some more at home. The answers given are not usually simple, but are a guide as to where to look. In the seeking you may find many answers and many more questions!

Todays Reading - Earth Dragon

Today’s card is from the Druid Animal Oracle by Philip and Stephanie Carr- Gomm with illustration by Will Worthington.

Earth Dragon
Power, Potential, Riches

Within us all there is a great potential. We are born with a purpose and gifts that will enable that purpose to be achieved. But life has boundaries and frameworks that we grow up fitting into, no matter if we find the fit suits us or not. Humanity seems to need these frameworks, and usually they are in place to control. Eventually these frameworks become part of who we are, limiting our behaviour and our thought processes. All the while the Earth dragon sits within our hearts slumbering, its tail curled round the many treasures of our soul.

We all reach a time in life where we stop and question. We look around us and wonder why we feel out of kilter with the world, why we have not achieved a sense of peace and harmony, no matter how successful we are materially. Many people look at a spiritual path in more detail at this time as they search for whatever it is that is missing.

Let me tell you now, your search does not need to be a long one. Look inwards. Go on a journey, cutting yourself free of all the ties you have to society’s framework of how you should be as a person. Eventually, after much cutting and freeing, you will reach a cave, glowing with warmth and vitality. At the entrance you will find your dragon. Do not be afraid. This dragon is your friend. You have denied yourself access to it all your life, but still it has waited patiently for your arrival. Sit and talk with the dragon. Ask it to help you see your true gifts, your soul treasures, and learn how to put them to use in this lifetime. Love this dragon, because it is an aspect of yourself that has protected the truth of who you are for a long time. Loving it will help you build your friendship and allow you access to the cave that the dragon guards.

Once you befriend this creature and have access to your treasure house you will begin to notice the treasures that others carry, even if they are unaware of them in themselves. You could perhaps help them on their own mission to befriend the dragon.

Once you contact your inner power and your own unique gifts the world becomes a far more beautiful place. Limitations and restrictions are lifted and you will find you can manifest all that you need because you at last understand that life has no limits, it is only humanity that creates them.

Todays Reading - Phagos/ Beech

Today’s message comes from The Celtic Tree Oracle by Liz and Colin Murray with illustrations by Vanessa Card.
Phagos (Beech)

This was my first oracle deck and I’ve had it for around 20 years. For a long time it was my only deck but for the last few years it has sat at the back of my drawer where I keep my Tarot and Oracle decks, not forgotten, but slumbering. Recently it has been calling to me again so today I decided I would use the deck for a daily reading. The deck is based on the Ogham.

The Ogham alphabet is thought to be named after the Irish god Ogma. One theory of its origins is that it evolved out of a system of tallies used for accounting. Ogham is also known as or ogham craobh, beth luis fearn or beth luis nion.
About 500 Ogham inscriptions have been found in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England and the Isle of Man dating from between the 4th and 7th centuries AD. There are inscriptions in ancient Irish and Pictish which have not been deciphered. A number of bilingual inscriptions in Ogham and Latin or Ogham and Old Norse written with the Runic alphabet have been found.
While all surviving traces of Ogham are inscriptions on stone, it was probably more commonly inscribed on sticks, stakes and trees. Inscriptions generally take the form of somebody's name and the name of a place and were probably used to mark boundaries. [1]

The card for today then is Phagos, the Beech Tree. On the card you can see the Ogham symbol, plus three dots to either side of the tree itself. The three dots indicate that this is a Chieftain card. Chieftain trees were held in high regard in Druid practice, which puts extra emphasis on today’s message.  We have very many Beech woods in the UK. The tree has a wonderful smooth grey bark and exudes a quiet authority. The wood was once used as a writing surface because of its smooth and even surface. In fact the words book and Beech have the same origins. With this in mind Phagos asks us today to look for guidance in old books and writings, places associated with old energies, and objects which tell us a story of the past and its peoples. In doing this we are not going backwards. The past is an elder that can teach us much wisdom, and there is an awful lot of that wisdom that is still locked away, buried in words, undiscovered treasures and indeed within ourselves. The past can also give us new ideas, new approaches and ways of thinking that take us forward into a new future.

Don’t discount old ideas or ways of doing things that you are presented with. They may seem outmoded, but think of the personal costs involved in bringing them to light. This should be fully considered and respected.
Be aware today of anything that you seem drawn to, even if only a word or a name, that has to do with the past. Research further, reflect and respect the source. You may just be given a clue or inspiration that will help you on your own quest through life.

And as you go about your daily business look out for the Beech trees. They are wonderful vibrant greens or burnished copper and by now should be covered in the tiny beech nuts which squirrels adore. As you pass them give them at least a nod of respect and feel their ancient wisdom as they glance down at you.

Todays Reading - White Tara

Today’s card is from the Goddess Guidance Oracle by Doreen Virtue. The illustration is by Sue Halstenberg.

White Tara.

White Tara is one aspect of the Hindu Goddess Tara. She is the aspect that deals with purity of body and soul, maturity, compassion and physical and mental healings. Her help is slower and gentler than Green Tara, who is known for her speedy responses. White Tara slowly emerges in your life and holds you gently while she heals.

Her message to us today concerns sensitivity. She asks that we look at all the levels of sensitivity in our lives. Let’s begin with the physical body. I am sure you all know someone, even yourself that has some sensitivity to food, chemicals or other substances. This sensitivity shows as an allergy, IBS, a change in personality, overly increased energy levels, headaches and depression. Even if you have none of these things you may know that certain things do not sit too well with you and so you have learnt to avoid them. But there are times when we don’t listen to our body’s insistent calls. We over indulge in alcohol, smoke, take drugs for recreational purposes or at times to escape. Many of us over eat, and have diets high in fats and sugars. You cannot do these things and expect no reaction. Even if it takes years your body will pay for the times when you haven’t treated it with the respect it deserves. On a wider scale the whole Earth pays. Think on that. How does your consumption of any substance, be it natural or chemical affect the planet?

We are also becoming increasingly sensitive emotionally and mentally. Stress figures in everybody’s life these days, and although some stress is healthy, the types of stress that we feel threaten our survival are not. Over working and sticking to a job we hate so we can make ends meet financially causes massive stress. Many people feel they have to live up to certain standards to fit into society. Anytime that you cannot express who you really are, you put yourself under stress. There are many mental illnesses, addictions, emotional problems, phobias that are caused by stress, as well as physical ailments. You can see how the physical abuse that we subject our body to relates here too. Everything is connected.

White Tara represents the ultimate pure truth. She asks you to stop ignoring your body’s messages. Find help, take action, ask for White Tara’s help and support. There is no need for us to put ourselves through this constant attack on ourselves. It becomes a vicious circle and now is the time to break that circle. You will be surprised at the differences you will notice in yourself and your perception of the world around you.
There is another area I feel the need to discuss. Spiritual sensitivity is becoming heightened across society these days. More and more people are becoming aware of other dimensions and how we fit into the bigger picture. Some are doing this in an openly esoteric or spiritual manner, others through more practical measures. It all amounts to the same thing. Change is happening around us, in our universe, on our planet and within ourselves. A giant shift in consciousness is occurring and awareness of this shift is tugging at our inner being. White Tara is here to help us develop that sensitivity. Just be open to receiving her help, ask her to help you make the right food and drink choices. Ask her to help you listen to your soul’s voice and you will start to be a part of the shift in a way that will bring you balance, harmony and happiness as well as the pleasure of security.

Make a choice today to look at your life and see how you mentally and physically abuse yourself every day. You wouldn’t do that to your children or anyone else you love. So why are you doing it to you?

Todays Reading - Courage

Today’s card is from the Archangel Oracle by Doreen Virtue. The illustration is by Corey Wolf.

Courage – Archangel Ariel.

Ariel’s name means Lioness of God and she is a feminine presence. She is associated with animals, nature, elementals, magic and manifestation. This card always reminds me of the Strength card in the Tarot.

Ariel brings us courage and bravery. When she is with you, you may notice images of lions, or be drawn to information regarding lions. You may even dream of them. Think about the lion now. Think about their easy flowing, graceful movement, their majesty, their quiet knowledge that they are strong, their confidence, their belief that nothing can harm them. These cats are beautiful in their self belief. We can learn so much from them. People who are confident in their own abilities, who have the courage of their convictions, who are willing to speak their truth in a calm but assertive manner are powerfully attractive. We are instantly drawn to such people. The energy they give off is magnetizing and we all wish we could be like them. They seem to attract good fortune, they are full of health and energy and they love the path they follow in life. Why can’t we all be like them?

There is no reason at all why we can’t all be like that. Even if we are of a slightly more introverted nature we can still have that quiet calm, inner strength that draws good people and energy to us. Write down today what you are scared to speak out about, what you believe in that you dare not voice to others. Then ask Ariel to help you have the strength and the courage to find your voice. Sit quietly and visualise the colour red flowing up through your feet and filling the lower half of your body with a warm fiery glow. Next visualise sky blue entering your body through the base of your throat. Let it fill your chest, throat and arms with cool, calm truth. Sit for a while with these colours. Now imagine yourself in a bubble of white protective light. See the light pouring in to you through the top of your head. Emanate that light. Know that whenever you feel scared and in need of protection you can visualise this light, place yourself in this bubble and you will feel better.

After doing this exercise look again at the things you wrote on your paper. Do you feel differently about them? Are they things that still need expressing? If so is it really that hard to speak your own inner truths? After all, they are what make you who you are. We are all unique, yet we are still deeply connected. If you can find the courage to speak your truths you may be surprised to find that people actually want to listen, that they show you respect for doing so and that your confidence grows tenfold!

So let Ariel help you today. Let her warmth fill you with strength, courage and majesty. Be proud of who you are and the world will stand up and take notice. You may also find you love yourself more in the process, and that is a goal worth achieving.
